CSA - Purchase Weekly Vegetables for a Binghampton Family
CSA - Purchase Weekly Vegetables for a Binghampton Family
Each Thursday, we will harvest vegetables for families in Binghampton to take home to feed their families. $100 will get a family in need of a bag of vegetables for 7 weeks this fall.
WHAT IS A FOOD DESERT?
Food deserts are geographic areas where residents have few to no convenient options for securing affordable and healthy foods — especially fresh fruits and vegetables. Disproportionately found in high-poverty areas, food deserts create extra, everyday hurdles that can make it harder for kids, families and communities to grow healthy and strong.
HOW CARPENTER ART GARDEN COMMUNITY GARDENS HELP?
Our Community Gardens are an urban farming vocational opportunity for teens and residents and help fill the food insecurity gap in our neighborhood and surrounding areas. Our two gardens provide skills training, community building, and a place to grow healthy eating options. We sell vegetables in our Binghampton neighborhood, and our produce is featured on the menus of local restaurant partners.
CAG community gardens provide Binghampton families an additional healthy, low-cost produce source. Food grown locally and consumed soon after harvest is more nutritional than anything purchased in stores.
There's some evidence that people who engage in urban farming eat more fruits and vegetables. Through our Garden Club, children learn about fresh vegetables in the garden and cook them each week to try new healthy recipes.
